Rooted in The Loess Plateau
This series documents the rural lives of Shaanxi and Shanxi province in China. On the Loess Plateau, a lot of old people still maintained the lifestyle that their ancestors had experienced hundreds of years ago–grazing goats, growing crops, and living in Yaodongs (specific kinds of caves in that area). However, due to the lack of access to the outside world (part of some villages don't even have phone signals), this lifestyle has always kept them in poverty. A shepherd has told me his family can’t even earn ten thousand RMB (approximately 1408 USD) a year from grazing. Sometimes they can’t even make any profits. All photos were shot using 35mm analog film.
